Our recent experience in gastroenterology includes an ongoing relationship, starting in 2018, with the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and opinion leaders from among the association’s members (physicians, pharmacists, NPs, PAs and patient advocates) to develop educational programs on a number of important topics including:
Biosimilars in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): A series of 3 different educational programs, produced from 2018 to 2023, dedicated to informing HCPs and patients about the evolving clinical equivalence of biosimilars and the originator biologics. As summarized on this infographic Biosimilar or Biologic. It doesn’t matter which. Here’s why, there is now general agreement that biosimilars ARE biologics.
Roadmap for the Future of Colorectal Cancer Screening: This educational eLearning module was chaired by Uri Ladabaum, MD, MS, Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Stanford University School of Medicine. It was developed following a consensus conference on Colorectal Cancer Screening and Surveillance convened by the AGA’s Center for Innovation and Technology. Designed to encourage the gastroenterology community to work together to increase the rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and reduce mortality due to CRC, it is developed in 3 short segments:
- Strategic Modifications to CRC Screening to Improve Uptake and Outcomes
- Taking a Step Back: How Do We Use Colonoscopy and Non-invasive Tests to Optimize Screening?
- Risk Assessment in CRC Screening Decision Making
Advances in the Diagnosis and Management of GERD and Barrett’s Esophagus: In March 2021, the AGA Center for GI Innovation and Technology convened two multidisciplinary consensus conferences with physician experts, industry leaders, payors, FDA representatives, AGA leadership and patient advocacy groups. This very timely eLearning program chaired by Marcia Irene Canto, MD, Professor of Medicine and Oncology, Division of Gastroenterology, Johns Hopkins Medicine, highlights the major takeaways from the conferences in two important areas:
- The Continuum of GERD to Esophageal Cancer and the Role of Emerging Technology and Innovation
- Innovation in Barrett’s Esophagus, Current Strategies for Disease Detection, Risk Stratification and Management
Innovation in Duodenoscope Design: The AGA Center for GI Innovation and Technology developed an educational program in 2022 to address safety concerns reported by the FDA associated with infections related to reprocessing duodenoscopes. To support the program Medical Minds developed two live webinar presentations on Infection Control in Endoscopy with questions and discussion, co-chaired by Uzma D. Siddiqui, MD, Professor of Medicine, Director, Center for Endoscopic Research and Therapeutics, UChicago Medicine and Adarsh M. Thaker, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Division of Digestive Diseases, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA:
